THE CULTURE JOURNEY EXPERIENCE

Invitation to the workshop

I see it every day.  One organization after another stumbles because its culture is defensive, even toxic.  Today it’s Boeing.  Before it was Wells Fargo and further back, Nokia.  People are penalized for missing unrealistic goals or for speaking up when they see something awry.

Despite the disastrous effects of defensive culture, few organizations take the time to truly understand it.  Just 12%, according to a 2016 Deloitte survey of CEOS and other organization leaders.  The same survey found 19% of organizations believe they have the right culture.

Further, most organization don’t have a common language to use to talk about culture. They have no measurement, no understanding of change, nor alignment between culture, team building and leadership development. They have no clear connection of strategic plan to culture change.

THE CULTURE JOURNEY EXPERIENCE

So when I saw The Culture Learning experience last summer when it first became available, I grabbed it. To immediately share with you and others who seek to create conditions where people can do their best work. At Conbrio, we help clients assess and change their cultures. We’d love to help you, too, and this workshop is a great way to begin the conversation.

Human Synergistics, leaders in culture assessment and development, leveraged the expertise and methodologies of Root Inc., leaders in organizational change, to develop The Culture Journey Experience. This interactive experience helps leaders and change agents understand the complexities of culture, leadership, and their connection to performance improvement in an accelerated environment.

GOALS AND CONTENT

    • Share key learnings, experiences, and culture-related concepts to understand and appreciate culture’s complexity and the unique culture perspectives of peers and experts.
    • Understand how cultures evolve in organizations in the first place and the impact of history on their present states; learn about important aspects of organizational climate that have shaped and continue to reinforce their current cultures.
    • Build a common language for understanding the layers of culture using qualitative and quantitative methods. Discover how cultures change and identify paths that increase the likelihood of shared learning and positive results with any major change and development effort.
    • Identify causal factors (systems, structures, etc.) that are part of the work climate and understand how they reinforce the current culture and can serve as levers for change in improvement plans.
    • Apply learnings at each step of the workshop to your own organization (or to the organizations with which you work).
    • Receive a workbook with discussion and reflection questions so you can apply key workshop learnings with colleagues at your organization or your client organization after the event.

    BENEFITS

    • Accelerates the culture learning curve of participants in a fun, engaging, and effective way.
    • Simplifies the culture conversation and language through the use of images: The values wall, sign-posts, rocks, and mountain top represent constructs such as ideal culture, cultural styles, levers for change, and effectiveness.
    • Engages participants in meaningful discussion around the cultures of organizations — everyone involved can relate to many items on the map.
    • Supports the value of constructive culture and leadership development as participants learn why quick fixes and climate approaches fall short.
